But first, coffee
I am not saying I’m a coffee snob. I’m just saying that if I had to go out of my way, walk an extra twenty minutes, drive to the next city, or wake up a little earlier to get the perfect cup of caffeine - I will.
Now with everything in life, everybody is different. I shall preface every post with that disclaimer.
You might not like the food I like, you might not like the places I frequent, although I assure you - you will love the coffee spots I suggest.
Ha Kidding!
But again you may like your coffee stronger (I know my mum does) or more bitter (yuck) or you might just drink tea (you do you).
For whatever reason you’re here today, you’re curious to hear my suggestions in and around Sydney.
If you must know (and I may be revealing too much here) I’m an avid Almond Latte drinker. No! Don’t distrust me yet. My coffee preference is: not strong or bitter, and I love the perfect crema. Also Nonno told me anybody who has a sugar in their coffee is not to be trusted!
The list is & in no particular order:
Noon by Good Good Company (Manly)
Start with a coffee, then try the Breakfast Plate with Za’atar salmon, boiled egg, cacik, ADD avo and swap out the hemp seed loaf with a Sourdough Toast (or don’t, I don’t really care)
Then leave with another takeaway coffee in hand.
Marlowes Way (Sydney CBD)
If you work in or around the city, Marlowes way is your new go-to spot. Perched on the corner of Tank Stream Way & Bridge Lane, around the corner from Mr Wongs! Avoid peak hour lines and go before 8am or just after 10am - you can thank me later.
Black & White Espresso (Multiple locations, including The Strand Arcade, The Rocks, Chatswood Chase)
Barrel One Coffee Roasters (Multiple locations, mainly over the bridge including Lane Cove, Brookvale, Cromer, Manly and Potts Point)
Edition Roasters (Multiple Locations, Darling Square, World Square, Mid-City & Wynyard)
Please try Darling Square the OG location. One of the most incredible fit-outs, unlike the norm here in Sydney, designed by YSG studio inspired by a traditional Japanese farmhouse meets Scandinavia.
Primary Coffee (Two Locations - Marrickville and Potts Point) A coffee spot to go to if you want a good atmosphere every single time. I wouldn’t get this coffee take-away.
Roastville (Two Locations - Marrickville and Mosman) Both great choices for a coffee date, but the vibes in Mosman, tucked in a little laneway, is top tier!
Gertrude and Alice in Bondi on Hall St. What do you get when you cross two simple pleasures in life? A good coffee and a good book.
An institution that has been open for over twenty years and is loved by the locals. A cafe bookstore, who would’ve thought. Prime time is if you’re working from home during the week, duck out for a coffee in the afternoon and bask in the sunlight (depending on the time of year), or alternatively opt for a morning coffee and watch all of the Bondi influencers walk past after their gym sessions.
Skittle Lane (Multiple Locations including Sydney CBD, Circular Quay, Manly, Bondi and Brookvale) I’ve realised as I’m compiling this list, majority of my suggestions roast their own coffee beans, isn’t that telling.
Dutch Smuggler (Multiple locations including QVB, George Street and Martin Place Sydney) - again another Coffee Roaster.
Crumb Sydney located in Leppington in Sydneys West. Don’t let this sambo shop fool you. They have something up their sleeve that nobody has, a Denilson. Denilson and St Dreux are a force to be reckoned with. You’d be crazy not to try.
Veneziano Coffee Roasters (Multiple locations out of Sydney but the one you should care about is in Surry Hills) - I can continue with this list, but we may have to stop it here. So I’ll finish on a high with Veneziano. Born in Melbourne meaning you’d have to order a Magic when you go.
Happy drinking!
